The Never-ending Quest For a Good Book

I feel like I am on a never-ending quest for a good read. I just bought six new paperbacks from Barnes&Nobles and have been left feeling unfulfilled. I am not sure exactly what I have been searching for, other than a captivating story with three-dimensional characters that are relatable and real, with a climax and an ending that leaves me feeling satisfied when I turn that last page.

I have yet to find this elusive novel.

I shuffle between young adult and adult fiction and literature. I still read young adult because I find it hard to let go of all the lovely teen angst, never having felt any myself during my high school years (I also someday hope to have written works under that category, because I believe that young adult books have the potential to inspire teenagers and encourage them to read…although I feel the genre is seriously lacking). I read adult because that is my reading level, and fiction and literature because I enjoy a good story and sometimes I find non-fiction to be a little…dry. I also enjoy a good historical fiction book (which is, totally dorky, I know). Although I have never really enjoyed the science fiction genre, a good fantasy or supernatural novel I can find enjoyable. Romance novels aren’t usually my style – it has to have a really good plot line for me to enjoy smut.

All in all, my high expectations for literature always leaves me wanting more from the books I read. Yet I am having trouble finding such books!

And it’s really starting to piss me off!

Which is why I turn to you, bitch scouts. You could respond to this post tomorrow, you could respond in a year from now. It doesn’t matter to me. All that matters is that I get some feedback on some good reads.

Here’s essentially what I am searching for (genre and plot):
– Young adult
– Adult fiction and literature
– LGBT fiction and non-fiction (non-fiction with caution. Prefer fiction)
– any mixing of the three with sub genres in supernatural, paranormal, fantasy, romance, and historical fiction.

I enjoy longer reads. Anything in a series will interest me. I do not go by author – sometimes an established author has books I will never read, and sometimes a new, never-heard-of-before author has an amazing novel.

And also, don’t be afraid to surprise me, bitches. I may be a self-proclaimed literary snob, but I am always willing to be punched in the face by an unexpected good read.

So please please please, if you have a good book, leave the title and the author in the comments, along with why you like it! And like I said, you could give me the title of book I wouldn’t normally pick up and completely thrown me off.

  1. Shawna says:

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg
Rainbow Road (don’t remember the author)
My favorite book of all time: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (doesn’t really fit those catergories, but I love it and recommend it to everyone)

  2. Sacha Black says:

‘a disturbed girls guide to curing boredom’ by james howell.

He has literally just released the second book. Its is AMAZING.

the protagonist is a bisexual sociopath. Sex, drugs, rock and roll, terrorism, murder, journalism bit more sex… some twist and turns.

a fairly short read but i am not sure if thats because i couldn’t put it down.

one of the best books I’ve read in a while 🙂

let me know if you do read it and what u think.

The Book Thief- Marcus Zuzack (sp?)
Divergent and the next book Insurgent
    The 13th Tale
    Soon, I Will Be Invincible

It’s a random mixture, but I’m a book junkie, and these have been some of the more enjoyable reads lately.

  4. Thanks so much guys! I will definitely check them out!
